Why Scheveningen is *the* surfing hotspot of the Netherlands
Scheveningen isn't called the “Surf City” of the Netherlands for nothing. Nowhere else in our country will you find so many surfers in one place. This has everything to do with its location. Due to its position on the North Sea, Scheveningen receives more and higher waves than other Dutch coastal towns. Furthermore, the harbour moles and the Pier provide shelter, meaning you can often surf somewhere even in changing wind conditions. This makes the beach exceptionally versatile.
South of Scheveningen lies the Sand Motor: an artificially created sandbank that was constructed in 2011 for coastal reinforcement. A nice bonus for surfers is that this sandbank provides particularly favourable wave conditions, especially for kitesurfers. Surfing in Scheveningen is possible all year round. With the right wetsuit, you can easily enter the water even in January.
